Megawatt plant of gp solarpark in Buttenwiesen is opened
Sulzemoos/Buttenwiesen, 03.11.2004 / With one megawatt, the currently largest green field solar electricity plant constructed with thin film modules was opened ceremonially last Friday at Buttenwiesen, district of Dillingen a. d. Donau, Bavaria. The Managing Directors of gp solarpark II GmbH & Co. KG, the farmers Heinrich Gärtner and Ove Petersen, proudly presented the solar electricity plant constructed by Phönix SonnenStrom AG as the general contractor.
At the ceremony with over 100 guests, Gärtner and Petersen thanked all participants and accepted the congratulations of District Magistrate Leo Schrell, Mayor Norbert Beutmüller, Franz Vielhuber from the Bavarian Agricultural Society and Martin Oefele from the Savings Bank of Augsburg. The banking representative brought a present of “liquid sustenance” and a walnut tree, together with his best wishes for long-term profits.
Phönix SonnenStrom AG constructed the solar farm in Buttenwiesen on a former agricultural area of 4.5 hectares. The 10,050 thin film modules type MA 100 from the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) consist of amorphous silicon and have a peak power of 100 watts per module. They have an energy recovery period of only three years, i.e. the modules produce the amount of energy expended for their manufacture within three years.
Heinrich Gärtner and Ove Petersen had considered their decision to use thin film modules from MHI well. They had installed test plants with different modules on their own agricultural land in Buttenwiesen and in Cecilienkoog in northern Germany. Their final decision for the MHI modules particularly pleased Manfred Bächler, Chief Technology Officer of Phönix SonnenStrom AG. In thin film modules, he sees a technology with a great cost reduction potential. “And the fact that the plant could go online in August, earlier then planned, demonstrates the advantages offered by our optimised assembly frame” said Bächler.
