Phoenix Solar signs contract with Lonza Biologics using REC modules

  • Singapore’s largest solar PV system to be completed in 2009

Singapore, 25 Sept 2008 / Singapore based Phoenix Solar Pte Ltd (Phoenix Solar), the regional subsidiary of Phoenix Solar AG, has been awarded a contract by leading Swiss pharmaceuticals manufacturer Lonza Biologics Tuas Pte Ltd (Lonza) for the turnkey installation of what will be Singapore's largest solar PV system upon completion in 2Q 2009. The announcement was made at a signing ceremony during the Singapore-Norway Energy Conference held at the Shangri-La Hotel. Representatives from the three companies – John
Machulski and Stephen Keane for Lonza, Øyvind Hasaas for the module manufacturer, Renewable Energy Corp ASA (REC), and Christophe Inglin for Phoenix Solar inked the agreement for a 181kWp system. “In building our Tuas facility, we chose to invest in renewable energy as part our corporate belief in environmental stewardship. We selected Phoenix Solar for their strong industry experience, professionalism and reputation for quality,” said Stephen Keane of Lonza. Construction of the Lonza Biologics facility in Tuas Biomedical Park began in February 2007, with Bovis LendLease as the main contractor. This will be Lonza’s second large-scale manufacturing plant in Singapore. Once complete, the facility will operate with
cutting-edge technology and a skilled labour force, and will manufacture biopharmaceutical products for a number of customers and therapeutic applications. “We are proud to be chosen for this groundbreaking project with Lonza. The project will be an outstanding benchmark that will pave the way for future such developments.” says Christophe Inglin, Managing Director of Phoenix Solar. For the project, Phoenix Solar will use high quality polycrystalline modules supplied by REC, a world leader in the solar energy field, to cover the sloping roof of Lonza’s south west wing. The system will come complete with real-time system performance monitoring, energy output display unit and remote internet monitoring. In Tuas, REC has begun constructing one of the world’s biggest integrated PV manufacturing complexes, to produce wafers, cells and modules in Singapore from the beginning of 2010.
